Denna Holm
Born with a love of horses in her heart, Denna grew up reading stories like "The Black Stallion" and "My Friend Flicka." She experienced the stories firsthand, using her overactive imagination to ride along with the main characters in these stories, becoming a living, breathing part of the action. A strong curiosity about science and possible life outside her own planet led Denna to write her first science fiction short story at the young age of twelve.
A western cowgirl up until the age of twenty-nine, Denna decided to take on a new challenge and exchanged her jeans, boots and cowboy hat for a dressage saddle, tights and a helmet. Dressage, a form of English riding where years are spent developing a working relationship with a horse would turn out to be her biggest challenge to date. In need of a new horse she picked up a race track reject, a four-year-old thoroughbred gelding named "Oregon Sunshine" and began a demanding training program. Within five short years Sunshine and Denna were able to climb the levels, earning her United States Dressage Federation bronze and silver medals at the FEI level of competition, no easy feat for an ex-cowgirl and her thoroughbred.
When an injury forced Denna to retire from the show ring, she decided to try her hand at writing again, having never lost her love of reading and science fiction. There was a lot to learn after so many years away from school, but never one for giving up on a dream, she brushed up on her writing skills at the local university and finally gave free rein to her overactive imagination producing Soul of a Warrior, a science fiction romance. Denna is married with one daughter. They live in Oregon along with five dogs, thirteen cats, three horses and an African Grey parrot. There is never a dull moment.
